Legality of LIP packages

eCo Software has rights to create and distribute LIP language packages.

1. Creation

  • 1.1. Serenity Systems (USA) company have asked eCo Software to create russian version of OS/2 (eComStation). (signed the letter)
  • 1.2. Mensys BV (Netherlands), distributor of eComStation, have asked eCo Software create other NLV versions of OS/2 (brazilian portuguese, etc)
  • 1.3. ArcaOS is a copy of eComStation (has the same structure the same applications and utilities as eComStation). The work done for eComStation, fits for ArcaOS.

2. IBM files can be modified

  • 2.1. LIP language package doesn't modify the programs of IBM, it replaces language resources and system settings only.

    In other words, LIP package contains changed resource files (msg, nls, txt, etc), res- files related to some executable files and libraries, without modifications of executable code.

  • 2.2. IBM corporation doesn't prohibit to process resources files: a) IBM have created tools to edit this files, b) all language resources are freely available and not encrypted.

3. Copyright of eCo Software

5.1. eCo Software выполнила перевод сообщений с одного языка на другой. Результат перевода - принадлежит eCo Software.

3.2. Работники (участники) eCo Software выполнили работу по локализации OS/2 на разные языки. Работы выполнены по договорам, Акты выполненных работ подписаны.

3.3. eCo Software в праве распоряжаться своим продуктом по своему усмотрению, изменять свой программный продукт, продавать пользователям, находящимся в любых странах.

4. The users have a right to accept files from eCo Software

4.1. The user paid for OS/2 license.

4.2. Installation of LIP package (switch of OS/2 language to other) is possible from OS/2 only.

5. Distribution

5.1. Serenity Systems company have signed the agreement with eCo Software, allowed distribution of OS/2 and updates for it. (the agreement is actual, not broken)

5.2. Mensys company have signed the agreement with eCo Software, allowed distribution of OS/2 and updates for it. (the agreement is actual, not broken)

5.3. ArcaNoae company have signed the agreement with eCo Software, allowed distribution of OS/2 and updates for it. (the agreement is actual, not broken)

5.4. The agreements mentioned in 5.x do not contain prohibitions to distribute LIP packages.

  • Еще раз другими словами: Языковые пакеты LIP - это изменённые ресурсные файлы msg, dlg, txt (это не исполняемые .exe файлы).
