eComStation 2.0 RC5 introduces the Feedback Wizard to enable the
development team to easier collect data on specific hardware and the
success rate of ACPI support. This wizard will be invoked automatically
once, if ACPI support is configured on the system.
Since it's release on july the 4th, the eComStation 2.0 RC5 ISO file has
been downloaded over 500 times. We have received a bit more than 70 reports
generated with the Feedback Wizard.
We would like to ask you to run the Feedback Wizard and in order to have
more systems identified. Please make sure you answer the 3 questions on
ACPI, APM and performance accurately.
If you want to manually start the Wizard, this can be easily done by
clicking the Feedback Wizard icon in the Help Center. ('Desktop' -> 'Local
System' -> 'Help Center')
Once you have submitted a report, you will be able to review all reports by
others and review/edit your own reports via a webinterface. Details of this
will be emailed to you shortly after the submission. Please note: The use
of the Feedback Wizard requires a working Internet connection.
Some FAQ items specific to eComStation 2.0 RC5 have been added to the RC5
support page at: rc5report
Thanks in advance for your support!

I would like to let you all know that today I have launched
a new eComStation software website known as eCSWare.org.
This site is a place where members will be able to upload and download eCS related software.
There are many categories ranging from system and developer tools to themes and icon sets.
The site is brand new and is seeking new members and contributers. There
have already been some files uploaded but I am sure there are a great many
useful pieces of software that need a place to live. Currently the site is
set to allow a max upload of 100 megabytes but if you want to host something
bigger contact me and I we can arrange to host the file.
My hopes for this site are to create a service that is complimentary to other
eCS related services and websites already in existance and to work with these
resources to create a better overall eComStation community. See you there!

Warpstock Europe 2008 is coming
(November 14 to 16, 2008, Duesseldorf, Germany)
You are right, the cost of the trip to Duesseldorf may be very high for you. 300 EURO.. 500 EURO.. 1000 EURO.. or more.
What is the reason to spend so much money?
A. Are you going make a presentation?
The conference is a good chance to
- demonstrate your applications to the users
- present success story of eComStation usage;
- share your libraries with other developers;
- learn new eComStation technologies and share the knowledge with other developers;
- present own concept of OS development;
- inform developers which software and drivers should be created;
B. Moreover, the visit of the conference gives you:
- Intercourse
- You are meeting with other users and developers from different countries, different cultures;
- If you are a developer, then you are meeting with your clients. Ask them what do they need;
- Meet the users from your city and region. The conference may help you create Local User Group;
- Get fresh news and secret information when chatting.
- Income/experience
- The visit of Germany is good for your experience, you can see how german people are working, why they are so productive.
- You are collecting information what is the trend of OS/2 development. This helps you safe the efforts and don't spend then time to fake goals after return to home.
- If you are a designer then watch the design of german houses, clothes, banners
- Improve your english(/deutch/dutch), no need to buy tutorials of english language
- You are mobilizing while preparing for the conference. You are generating more ideas, more code while preparing for D-Day.
- Present your program to sell it
- Vacations
- If you don't have a report then interpret the trip as short vacations

A) Fresh news: We get more reports that eComStation works fine on 8 cores.
B) Why to install ACPI for eComStation?
You should install ACPI for eComStation to:
Common (Notebooks, servers, barebones):
- to initialize PC (the devices are not initialized on boot without ACPI),
- to use multi-core CPU (Core Duo, AMD X2). Especially, if you want run computer in APIC mode,
- device drivers for eComStation depend on ACPI,
- ACPI provides information about the computer to drivers, applications and system information utilities.
Notebook, barebone:
- to manage power management (suspend/resume/poweroff)
- to reduce power consumption
For developer:
- The main purpose of the driver is to provide ACPI interface to applied developers.
C) Bug-tracker,
The rules changed:
ACPI tracker -> [New ticket]
Register to Login,
don't use short name&password, save your password
D) How to contribute to ACPI project?

eComStation supports any USB flashdisk. Attention: it should be prepared for (from) eComStation.
eCo Software created a site how to prepare flash disks (russian language).
Short list of suggestions:
- Start from review: USB Removables Care and Feeding FAQs (by Lon Hooker)
- Use LVM to create the volume. Don't use Windows tools.
- If LVM doesn't allow you create a volume then use ALVM (Avalanche LVM)
- If eComStation traps after flash eject then post bug-report to FAT32 bug-tracker. Use JFS filesystem (eComStation 2.0). post bug-report -> [New ticket]
(Register to Login, don't use short name&password, save your password)
- If eComStation doesn't boot with USB Flash disk attached then install updated USBD.SYS (was available during some days in BETAZONE, spring 2008)
- How to increase speed of read/write to USB flash disk? Read USB FAQ
- Reports about tested USB flash disks
- Does eComStation supports USB Harddisks? Yes (40 .. 500Gb), less troubles than with flash disks.
Post addons to eCo Software support service

A) Interviews -- most active users and developers (help us to find other interviews)
B) Char/Forum -- discuss important topics with other users
The main advantage of IRC - immediate contact with the group of users and developers in real-time.
Why to use IRC?
- if you start new project and going to work in conjuction with other developers

C) Conferences -- You have a chance to visit Warpstock in California and Warpstock Europe in Duesseldorf.
D) How to participate in the life of eComStation community? There are many advices in Evolutionary Sprint stories
