Sony Vaio VGN-A190

Mark: Good

Very good hardware. Drivers for some peripherals lacking or functioning improperly on eCS 1.2. Sound on docking station works if following after configuration of uniaudio and resampling to 48kHz. Nice screen and very good (but only 1yr as std) support from Sony.

ACPI support: worked well with first versions of ACPI, but hangs with newr builds (~ Summer 2006 and after)

CD-ROM: The Matshita CD/DVD becomes being slow after one year and a half. Very slow access of some CDs, does not even read some CDrs (boots well from Mensys's eCS1.2R CDs, but does not recognize home made versions of the same disks now, even if it did last year)

Display+PCMCIA: After having sent the PC to Sony for repair (seems I broke the keyboard connection when adding more RAM - one RAM connection is located underneath the keyboard, the other on the bottom of the laptop -), they sent it back to me with a new bios. Since then, I have been unable to use PCMCIA (was working fine before with APsoft driver), and widescreen resolutions do not work anymore (limited to 1900*1200 before, 1600*1200 now)

eCo Software was participating in the development of drivers:
  • ACPI - OS kernel, resources management, power management
  • Panorama VESA - universal video driver
  • JFS - boot feature implemented
  • Uniaud - initial support of HDAudio
  • USB - restore of source code
