Xerox Phaser 6280V_DN

Mark: Very good

The Xerox Phaser 6280V/DN postscript v 3 color laser printer works great under OS/2 with the Linux/CUPS ppd files that are included with the CDRom. No tweaking needed. Once imported via InstPDR.EXE (Add printer drivers) I installed it as a local printer with a SLRP port.
eCS SLRP Howto: Re click on your printer object in Local System / Printers. Choose the Tab port and Install new port: SLPR. Enter the IP adres or resolvable hostname of your printer as LPD server and choose LPRPORTD compatible (as the High Perfomance seldom works). LPD printer can be LPT3 (any name is accepted).

The DN version has hardware duplex printing and supports a lot of network protocols (ftp, telnet, http, netbeui, netbios-ssn, microsoft-ds, printer, ipp, jetdirect, Ipv4 and IPv6 ). I use SLPR (printer), but as an USB device it also working. It can be remotely configured via HTTP and telnet.

Sadly NetBIOS via TCP/IP did not work under OS/2 (no problem under XP):

[E:\]net use LPT3 \\colorlaser\colorlaser-p
NET3502: OS/2 error 51 has occurred.
SYS0051: The remote computer is not available.

Nevertheless, via SLPR the printer is fast enough (30ppm bw and 25 ppm color printing) and rock solid. Thus not a paper shredder like so many cheap inkjet printers. The colors are great for a color laser.
