IOMEGA Home Network Hard Drive
Mark: Average I acquired tested the 320 and 500 GB versions of the relatively cheap
"Home Network Hard Drive". The 320GB Home NAS drive has been replaced
by the 360GB Home version.and
- Performance: 200 MHz CPU
- Capacity: up to 500GB SATA-II
- 10/100 Mbps network Ethernet port
- USB Device: 1 USB 2.0 port
- HDD Rotational Speed - 7200 RPM
- HDD Memory Cache - 8MB
See the homepage,
- Home office network sharing made easy - files, photos, music and video!
- The Iomega Home Network Hard Drive 500GB offers an easy way to share files
over your home network (up to 4 users). Share photos, music and
video while increasing your storage capacity. The Discovery Tool
Home utility (PC) makes set-up a snap and automatically configures
to work with any computer on your network. This cost-effective network
hard drive (NAS) includes EMCо Retrospectо HD software (2 licenses) for
Touch-Free backup of all your important files.
Of course this external software only works under Windows. For backups I use
the reliable (and versatile ) dfsee disk mirrors from any OS I use (Windows,
OS/2 , Linux).
What can I say about the internal software of the NAS device? It's
embedded Windows crap. It only works as a NAS with FAT32 (filesize
limit 4 GB) and it cannot export long file names and dates correctly
to OS/2. Not under OS/2 NetBIOS, NetBIOS via TCP or under the SMB-client
of Netdrive:
H:\\test>dir
The volume label in drive H is NETDRIVE.
Directory of H:\\test

1.073.741 K bytes free
How can I use it under OS/2? Via the FTP port. The FTP port can be used
via Netdrive. I can even make backups of all my drives to the FTP server
of the IOMEGA NAS. Script
BTW The device has an USB interface that can only be used when the network
cable is disabled. I use one of the NAS devices as a backup medium. The
other is used as an via the network ( Sitecom LN-510 85Mbps Homeplug Kit)
accessible USB disk for my Conceptronics CMED3PLUS USB disk and Media Player.
So the from EmperoarTV recorded programs (all or not via mencoder of ffmeg
converted to MPEG-4 streams ) can be transported via FTP to the USB
interface (the IOMEGA NAS with the ethernetcable unplugged) of my
mediaplayer and thus be shown on my TV.
